Sec 2: March Holidays Assignments

1) Anti-Drug ESSAY or POEM

ESSAY (500 - 600 words, no more than 600 words!)

Either
An essay with the theme - The Deadly Trap of Drug Abuse

Or
An essay beginning with one of the following phrases:
(a) Glue sniffing was a mistake from the start..."
(b) "I/He/She lost the most important thing/person in the world when I/he/she started to abuse drugs..."

POETRY (4 - 6 stanzas or more if you like!)
You are invited to write a poem about glue-sniffing / drug abuse with one or more of the following themes:
a) Peer Pressure
b) Family
c) Loss
d) Regret
e) Destruction

Preferably submit your entries type-written with the word count indicated at the end of the entries.

Criteria:
- Engagment of Drug Awareness Issue 40%
- Creativity / Originality - 30%
- Diction / Expression - 30%

Additional Information:
- You're encouraged to submit DRAWINGS or SKETCHES to complement your essay or poem, and also to give a TITLE to your work

Sec 3: Irony

In-class:
- Irony handout was distributed
- Irony as a literary device was introduced
- Situation irony and verbal irony were highlighted to be the most important types of irony in Literature
- Students listened to "Ironic" by Alanis Morrisette: task was to identify appropriate "Situational" and "Verbal" ironies in the song


Homework:
- MU: read pages 110 - 119
- Task 1: Complete IRONY(2) worksheet
- Task 2: pg 115 - 116 complete questions #1 & #3
- Task 3: pg 118 complete all questions

EXTRA LESSON on IRONY either on Friday (12 March, 2010) or Tuesday (23 March, 2010).

Please make it a point to attend either Friday or Tuesday's class as there will be a TEST on Wednesday (24 March, 2010).

Sec 2: Compre Review

Dear girls:
I promised to provide the model answers for the Distinction in EL Compre passage (pg 68) on my blog. However, due to copyright issues, I don't think it is possible for me to post it up on my blog. I will provide the answers to your EL rep - please check the answers with her.
