- FINAL copy of your speech is to be TYPED and it's due on MONDAY 22 Feb, 2010
- Word limit: 400 - 450 (introduction + body paragraphs + conclusion). You have to deliver your speech in 3 minutes.
Please stay within the word limit! If you go beyond the word limit by 10 - 30 words, you would not be penalized for it.
IF YOUR WORD LIMIT IS UNACCEPTABLE, YOU MAY BE PENANLIZED AS I WILL ONLY MARK THE FIRST 450 WORDS OF YOUR SPEECH.

Sec 2: Persuasive Speech (SP3-7 & SP3-8)
2C:
Some of you have expressed that you have a chemistry test on Friday, so I've decided to postpone the speech writing till next Thursday! Please concentrate on your chemistry test, and do well =)
You'll be given time in class tomorrow to complete SP3-7 & SP3-8. You'll be writing the speech body next Thursday during common test time (1:10pm - 2:20pm).
2J:
We'll not be meeting due to Chinese New Year celebrations tomorrow. However, I am expecting all of you to have completed SP3-7 & SP3-8 as I'll be collecting the assignment from you. Should we have bad weather (and CNY celebrations are called off), you'll be given time in class to complete and discuss SP3-7 & SP3-8 with your classmates.
You'll be writing the speech body next Thursday during common test time (1:10pm - 2:20pm).
The two girls who will be going away for your competition on Thursday afternoon, be prepared to write the speech body next Wednesday during CME time. Ms. Du Jia has agreed to let you write your speech body during CME time.

I scanned through your introductions and comments - you girls are all on the right track! Please watch your grammar and keep to the word limit though =p I saw a lot of praises, and it's good that you are encouraging your friends, but please remember you were suppose to include a suggestion on how your friends can improve as well! You'll be given around 40min to write your introduction in class on Thursday. See you girls then!

- Students practiced how to use the features of indirect characterization (examples of STEAL for 'John is a mischevious and hyperactive boy')
- Students taught the importance and effects of conflicts, tension and suspense in literature
- Group work: students watched clips from Dark Knight, and asked to focus on spotting how the filmmaker uses all 5 types (STEAL) to characterize the Joker
- Group work: students given the question 'What are the traits that make the Joker an antagonist in the Dark Knight?' to discuss Evidence & Point in the handout

- Read MM chapter 14 & chapter 15

I'm sorry that I am unable to post clips of the video on my blog, I would be breaking copyright laws! We'll be watching it in class and elaborating on Elaboration in the handout on Wednesday.
There'll be a TEST on Wednesday 3 Feb, 2010 (8:30am - 9:40am), please understand PEE and STEAL very clearly! NO textbooks or other references (dictionary, thesaurus) are allowed. The test will be 50min, no extensions allowed.
For the make-up lesson, please let the girls who are not taking literature know that they are not allowed to leave the classroom during CME. They are to stay in class and do their own work quietly. Thank you!
